MSU Southern Maryland Alumni Chapter | Founded in 2005 | 20 Years of Service
Through the awarding of scholarships to prospective Morgan State University (MSU) students from Southern Maryland, health related outreach and awareness activities in the community, Adopt A Road, partnering with other MSU entities such as Patuxent Envirornment and Aquatic Research Laboratory (PEARL), the Chapter has successfully lived up to our Alma Mater and to the communities in which we reside and work.
The mission of the Morgan State University Southern Maryland Alumni Chapter (MSUSMAC) is exclusively educational and charitable for the purpose of promoting the interest, welfare, and the excellence of Morgan State University and all of its components. The Chapter also seeks to strengthen and extend relationships among alumni; to foster all possible means of keeping alumni informed about the University; its progress and its challenges; to develop and utilize the individual and collective efforts of the alumni in advancing the welfare and best interest of the University; to encourage promising high school students to select the University for their education; and to provide financial support to the University and assist the University in its efforts to raise funds from alumni, friends and the private sector

During the summer of 2004, Reverend George DeFord and other Morgan State University (MSU) graduates convened several meetings to gauge the interest in forming a local alumni chapter. An initial organizing meeting, which attracted fifteen MSU alumni, was held on October 14, 2004, at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Indian Head, Maryland.
With seventeen members in attendance, the Chapter was officially chartered on May 14, 2005 during the annual business meeting of the Morgan State University National Alumni Association.
